Project launch

The SERIOUS project, launching on December 9, 2024, aims to develop synthetic design hydrographs (SDH) for evaluating the effects of climate change on bridge scour in continental Croatia (Danube River Basin). As extreme flood events become more frequent and intense, the stability of bridges is increasingly at risk.

This research will apply bivariate statistical analysis and machine learning to improve SDH modeling, integrating hydrological models with climate projections (CMIP5/CMIP6). The goal is to link climate change to local scour, improving reliability in predicting bridge stability under future conditions.

The project, funded by the Croatian Science Foundation (€148,392.89), will benefit engineers, hydrologists, and public infrastructure managers by providing a more robust methodology for designing resilient water structures.
